John died on Census Day, 2.4.1911, when his wife Margaret was recorded as a widow, with a note saying: 'John Watkinson away from home'.
His death certificate gives cause of death as 'Double pneumonia accelerated by falling in his boat on 23rd March 1911 and fracturing a rib.' A note adds: 'Certificate received from S Brighouse, Coroner for Lancashire. Inquest held 4th April'.
