    • A report in the Yorkshire Post, 11.09.1917, states that Mary was sent by her mother to buy bread in Burscough but did not return. Three loaves were seen floating in the canal and it was assumed that she was blown into the canal in a gale and her heavy coat carried her down. Parents' address Bog Houses, Martin Lane, in burial record.
