  • Notes
    • He was known to be working on the canal, and the burial record states: "Died at Blackburn from an accident."
An anonymous inquest report in the Ormskirk Advertiser states: "The inquest on a Burscough boy killed last month in the town of Blackburn has revealed that he died of blood poisoning. The lad fell beneath a crane as it loaded a barge on the cotton wharf at Port'o'Blackburn on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Apparently the deceased was assisting his father in the loading of a canal barge when the accident occurred. He was taken to the Blackburn Infirmary where two operations were carried out - one for the amputation of his foot. It was heard that the lad died despite the efforts of the surgeons to maintain life."
