  • Notes
    • An inquest report in the Liverpool Mercury, Thursday June 15, 1882, headed 'Alleged Tragedy at Widnes' referred to 'Richard Mason, flatman, 35, who died on Sunday night . . . from the result of a fight on June 5 with William Butrrows. The deceased's wife stated, after he had been brought home, that she asked how he had broken his ankle, and he replied: "It was only a drop of drink, and two fools together".' Verdict: natural causes.
