    Listed in early censuses as Eaves, but in 1871 (Plex lane, Halsall) as Hartley, unmarried boatwoman, with unmarried sister Elizabeth Eaves and half-brother James Blundell. In 1891 as Jane Blundell, again with half-brother James, and William Eaves.

    Father's surname given as Acklow in 1858 marriage record to Henry Blundell, but this is thought to be a mishearing for Hartley. In 1861 census in Plex Lane, Halsall, with three daughters, oddly still as as Mary Eaves, widow.
    Illegitimate daughter Jane, listed in early censuses as Eaves, appears from 1871 onwards as Hartley.
