    The 1841 census has a Thomas Sherman or Sharman, age 15, ship's carpenter, in Liverpool but not born in Lancashire. There is a possible baptism (Cheshire BTs, Findmypast) on July 30 1826 to William and 'Helen' Sherman in Stretton, nr Appleton Thorn, Cheshire, which would make him a brother of the Catherine Sherman b1834 Scarisbrick (qv) who married James Turner in 1853.

    Thomas married Margaret Worthington on 9 Apr 1849 in St Nicholas, Liverpool. Margaret (daughter of John Worthington and Jane Robinson) was born in 1827 in Lathom. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    1. Jane Sherman was born between 11 and 12 May 1849 in Wigan; died in May 1849 in Wigan; was buried on 12 May 1849 in All Saints, Wigan.

    3. William Sherman was born on 1 Dec 1852 in Liverpool Canal Basin, aboard No 17 Boat; died about May 1902 in Wigan.
    4. John Sherman was born on 10 May 1855 in Pottery, Wigan.
    5. Margaret Sherman was born on 6 Apr 1859 in Pottery, Wigan; died in 1893 in Upholland.
