    William married Sophia Joy on 21 Apr 1822 in St Andrew, Leyland. Sophia was born in 1796; died in 1826 in Hoghton, nr Blackburn; was buried on 6 Jul 1826 in Holy Trinity, Hoghton. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    1. Mary Ann Smithson was born in 1824 in Pleasington, Blackburn.
    2. Isaiah Smithson was born in 1826 in Hoghton, nr Blackburn.

    The 1841 census is confusing as Robert, 60, is accompanied by Eliz 60, with Christiana, 20, and Esther, 15, then a Jane Smithson, 59.. Esther's mother is identified as Jane in her baptism record, as is Robert's.
