    Awarded the Victoria Cross in 1857 for bravery in the Indian Mutiny after enlisting in the Light Infantry as William Napier, named after an uncle honoured in the Grenadier Guards (family records). Wikipedia entry states that he had also been awarded the Crimea Medal in 1956 and in 1862 settled in Australia.
