Although identified as an agricultural labourer in these censuses, he was engaged as a lockkeeper from about 1843, according to his grandson, Norman Walls, in the "Walls Collection" of papers loaned to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Society.
Benjamin married Eleanor Tinkler about May 1849 in Thirsk. Eleanor (daughter of John Tinkler) was born in 1824 in Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe, nr Thirsk; died about Feb 1860 in Thirsk. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
