4807 In 1881-1901 censuses as John Parr, living with his maternal grandfather George Sturgess, a tailor. Married as Parr, but in 1911 census as John Sturgess. In 1939 census and burial record as as John Parr Sturgess.
Although he married a boatman's daughter, there was no further canal link. We have included family details to explain the name change from Parr, presumably to keep the tailoring business as Sturgess.
