3235 Died after an accident in Liverpool docks. A report in the Northwich Chronicle, 28.9.1985, stated (in summary):-
'An accident of a very serious nature happened to Jabez Deakin in the North Carriers Dock, Liverpool on Tuesday evening. Deakin, mate of the steamer Ceres, belonging to the Salt Union Limited, lives at Castle Northwich, where he has a wife and family of eight children. In order to reach his vesse he had to cross the deck of a Norwegian barque named Cap. The night (between 10 and 11 pm) was very dark, with no lights, and the combings of the barque being very low and the hatches off, Deakin fell 20-25 ft head foremost into the hold, breaking three ribs, fracturing both shoulders, dislocating his neck and injuring himself internally. He was taken to Bootle Hospital.'
