'but as the weather was terribly rough they put back. The vessel became a practical wreck and the two men had to pass the night clinging to the mast.' At first light a lifeboat was launched, but they made for shore in their own boat and got within 100 yards 'when their frail craft capsized and they disappeard never to rise again.'
