  Born before parents married and baptised as William Thompson (mother Ann). Appears in 1871 census as William Thompson Eaves, and as William Eaves in 1881. Marries as William Thompson (father Henry Eaves) but listed with wife Margaret as Eaves in 1891. Family still Eaves in 1901 but death record is for William Thompson. In 1911 his children are named Thompson in Maypole Lane, Lathom, with note saying "Margaret Thompson (head) away in boat" - though she is listed on the canal in Liverpool as Margaret Eaves.
