  Drowned in the canal, cycling home from the Railway Hotel, Parbold, at night. Birth and death dates given in Post Office gratuity record, though baptism record indicates birth as April 9th. DC gives death date as 2.1.1928 in Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Parbold, 'accidentally drowned through falling into the canal in the dark' on 31.12.1927. Newspaper reports of his death and inquest provided by his grandson, Colin Brand, are in our Media/Documents section headed Parbold Drownings. The Coroner recommended that the Canal Company should instal lighting at the bridge and a gas lamp was erected in 1929.
