    • No birth record found but in 1851 census with parents as "boatman's son" age 21. Not found in 1861 but there is a marriage at Liverpool Register Office in 1860 to Ann Fay (Lancs BMD) and in 1871 an overwritten entry in Liverpool has been transcribed on Ancestry as Henry Ledbetter, 36, stoker in gas works, with wife Ann, 27 b Liverpool, and three children. This Ann is a widow in 1881 in Birkdale, with sons Matthew, 14, and Alfred, 6, mother's maiden name confirmed as Fay on Lancs BMD.
