• Notes

  Oddly in 1881 census as Charles Scragg, master of a canal boat in Burslem, with other Scragg boatmen alongside. Family all born as Preston, but appear in 1901 census as Scragg (reason unknown). Most revert to Preston in 1911, apart from William (see note in his entry).
