  Birthplace given as Lancaster in 1851 census, Penketh (Warrington) in 1861, Northwich in 1871. Probate granted twice: on July 29 1874 'Effects under ?300', will proved by son John Senior of Winnington, coal merchant, 'one of the Executors substituted'; and on April 25 1882 'Effects ?970 19s 2d', will proved by son William Clare Senior of Priory St, York, schoolmaster, 'the other surviving Executor substituted'.
