    • Birth registered as Joseph Lydiate, mother's maiden name Gandy.
      In 1861 and 1871 censuses as Joseph Lydiate, but in 1891 census and marriage record as Gandy.
      Marriage record initially named him as George Gandy, father Samuel Gandy, flatman, but a correction made on October 21 1901 reads: " . . . for George read Joseph in Col 2 (name) and in Col 7 & 8 (father's name and coccupation) read -- -- ." Correction made in the presence of Joseph and Alice Gandy (X X their marks).
