  Age 3 when baptised, but birth registered with middle name Carman in the same quarter that William's first wife. Annie Roberts, died. Parents not found after 1891 census: a Maria Partington of the right age is recorded in Moston Hall Orphanage, Chester, in 1901 and as a servant to a teacher, Rosa Cartwright, in Hoole Park, Chester, in 1911.
