      Portsmouth Naval Memorial 1916 (Ancestry) reads: "Skipper William Lyall, Gold Medal (Serbia). RNR HM Drifter 'Gavenwood' . Killed by mine explosion off Brindisi 20th Feb 1916. Age 51. Son of George and Ann Lyall; husband of Bessie Wood or Lyall, of 36 Low Shore, Macduff, Banffshire. Native of Macduff. 22."
      MI at Myrus Cemetery, Macduff (Find a Grave) reads: "In Memory of William Lyall, Skipper, RNR killed on active service 20th February 1916 aged 51. And his wife Betsy Wood, died 11th January 1952 aged 81. And their son William Lyall, master mariner, died 25th January 1956 aged 55. Also their daughter Bessie Wood Bruce, died 6th October 1977 aged 69 years."
