    Notes:

    Birthplace given as Netherton in 1881 census. Age given as 20 in 1890 marriage record.
    The 1901 marriage record of Thomas Ashcroft names his bride as Ann Reynolds, 38, widow, daughter of boatman John Mather, but no such people have been traced.
    The 1911 census record has her aged 41, and her daughter Ellen's 1909 birth record gives mother's maiden name as Reynolds, so it seems more likely that her married and maiden names were transposed in the marriage record and that she was Ann Mather, daughter of boatman John Reynolds - except that her first husband, Henry Mather, is listed in the 1911 census as a widower.
    In the 1901 census Ann was living in Chorley with her brother John Reynolds while her husband Henry was on a barge in Skipton with Charles Patman of Blackburn. They appear to have had no children, so it may be that they had long been separated.

    Ann married Henry Baldwin Mather on 6 Jan 1890 in St Thomas, Wigan. Henry (son of William Mather and Mary Langton) was born about Feb 1863 in Liverpool. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Ann married Thomas Ashcroft about Aug 1901 in Ormskirk Register Office. Thomas (son of Adam Ashcroft and Mary Ann Eccles) was born on 15 Mar 1865 in Burscough. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
